Large outdoor planters are very important additions to your yard if you want to engage successfully in gardening. If you are a beginner in gardening, you will find this to be among the best additions to your backyard. You can pour the soil inside the planter and plant your young flowers or any other plant in it. It helps increase the rate at which the plant grows and it will help concentrate all the nutrients in one place to make them easily available to the plant.
Make sure there is a little hole at the base of the planter. This enables water to easily seep out of the planter into the soil. If there is no such hole at the base, excess water will be retained in the planter and this will only make the root of the plant to rot. Before you buy any of these planters, first find out if it has drainage. Buy only those that have drainage or create drainage in them by yourself; this should not be difficult in the least. The bigger the planter, the bigger the drainage at the base should be, since bigger pots tend to retain more water. You can add temporary fencing to things for protection. Wrought iron fencing too can work perfectly.
Some people are of the opinion that you can improve on the drainage of the large outdoor planters by adding stones, pot shards or gravels to the base. This is not true in the least. Either you add gravel or stone, make sure you still create adequate drainage in the planter.
You should not just place your plants inside the large outdoor planters; make sure you also feed the plant. Add adequate nutrients inside the pot add the right type of fertilizer too. Make sure you mix the soil properly after each addition of fertilizer to enable complete mix. It is also good to add fertilizer periodically. The benefit of the large planter is that it can contain quite a number of plants at the same time.
